Dagmar Burkhart, born 1939 near Munich/Germany, studied Russian literature at the University of Heidelberg and continued to study Slavic Philology, Balkanistics, Americanistics and European Cultural Anthropology at the University of Munich. She earned her Ph.D. degree from the University of Munich in 1967 (summa cum laude). From 1968 to 1969 she was leading editor of the section "Slavic literatures" of "Kindlers Literaturlexikon", Munich. In the following years she acquired the qualifikation "Lecturer for German as foreign language" and worked as lecturer at the Goethe Institute, Munich. From 1978 to 1985 she was Research Assistant and Assistant Professor of Balkanistics at the Free University of (West) Berlin, from 1985 to 1995 Professor of South Slavic, Russian and Polish Literatures at the Univerity of Hamburg. 1995-2002 she was Full Professor of Slavic Literatures and Chair of the Slavic Philology Department at the University of Mannheim. 2002 she retired and does free research work since then.\\
